Day 5 - Dissolution

Yes. Its Day 5 already.

Here’s one you may have heard already if you’ve  been watching our never ending social Media presence.

Dissolution was a way to get all these thoughts off my chest about our confusion surrounding our own identities and how the ego, or the mind, or the psychologial sense of identity (whatever you want to call it) is just a weird concept that we faithfully protect at the expense of our happiness. Oh crap I’m doing it again, sorry.

Basically if any of this is true you can’t use words to explain it or it just becomes another concept that has to be believed in. Which is why it was funny to write it all out and shout it over a song.

The quote at the end of the song – “There is a feild, I’ll meet you there”, is the poet Rumi who was a Sufi Mystic from the 13th century.

Basically it means that people can connect with each other when they let go of judgment and rigid moral ideas. When we stop judging everything that happens. When we soften our opinions and stay in the quiet of our existence.

That kind of thing….

Yeah I know. I write something that sounds deep then I dismiss it. But I like Rumi. He also said “I have lived on the lip of insanity, wanting to know reasons, knocking on a door. It opens. I’ve been knocking from the inside.” Which I like – It means something like, you are looking for how to make your life better and then you realise you had it all along.

Let’s rock out…

Video introduction

Unfortunately the audio from Ableton didn’t record. You can hear it a bit. But I don’t think it matters too much because you’ve heard the whole song which is better.

LYRICS

Oh dear. Did you see the latest line up

They all look so confused.

But I suppose it’s not entirely their fault

I’ll explain

I must object to the current received wisdom and the modern social system

Championing the individual

Bodies and minds

Existence in time

Both are just projections

Of an ego in rejection

And in this dream

As real as it seems

The scarcity fallacy

Makes up the clear majority

Of thoughts in our heads

Are we better off dead?

But you’ll see it so much clearer when you banish past and future at your

Dissolution

Why are we still putting up with it?

Isn’t it obvious they’re the worst roommate ever

If you still aren’t sure let me see if I can put some more meat on the bones

We are led to believe

That there is always something more that we need

And how to satiate it?

We must get our hands on it

Then we would find

That we had Peace of mind

Miracle of miracles

But now consult the oracles

Who say if you train your mind

To need more time

You’ll forever be left wanting

Because you’re always missing now

That way insanity lies

You want to give that a try?

This perception of duality

Obscures the true eternity of

Dissolution

Dissolution.

Dissolution

It’s all you need

On an empty train

On an abandoned track

No destination

No way back

Denying the purpose

Defying the pull

We are the irritated

The guilty parties

The maps deleted

And the cancelled stars

The local idiots

The second-hand cars

The reduced isle armies

And The lay-by loves

We are the mirror dodgers

And the neurodivergent

The dietary requirements

The ill at ease

The Keyboard warriors

The old, the sick and the Diseased

More and more a thought emerges

held together by the churning

of the thinker who did thought it

planted it and kept it watered

Raw behinds and blood shot eyeballs

soaked in sweat a modern marvel

No Pain No Pleasure

No Pain No Pleasure

No Pain No Pleasure

There is a field

I’ll meet you there

Recording the song with Silke Blansjaar

Silke is a monster of a drummer as you will see from this video and if you saw us on the Barbarians Tour you will have seen her in full flow. Dhe depped for Mike M on that tour while he was off with Gaz Coombes (one of his other gigs), and we enjoyed working with her so much we insisted she come and record a track with us too. Here is some footage of that day.

Unfortunately for us, Silke has been snapped up as bassist for Yung Blud’s band. She is now touring the world and playing to stadiums all over. But what a great thing to happen to a young musician, we are like proud uncles.

Making the Dissolution video

On Saturday September 28th 2024 we got together in a village hall somewhere just outside of Didcot Oxfordshire with a few of our fans/friends/and family members to shoot a 1 shot video for the song.

In some ways the traditional music video is a thing of the past. When your music is mainly served up using social media platforms it changes things a bit.Psycologically when you see a polished well edited bit of video, peoples brains immediately think “advert” and scroll on by, so you need to keep it real, lively and spontaneous feeling. Luckily we dont really make super slick videos anyway, and having that limitation is actually really good for the creative process. So we thought, lets do it in one shot and perform the song, but we need a twist.

Because the song is kind of a spiritual rant, and even though the words were not written as a joke, we thought it would be kind of fun to make fun of the whole thing by making me into a “snake oil salesman” kind of religious/spiritual guru or something. We also thought it would be fun to mix a reasonably North American caricature and drop him at an very British local Parish Council style meeting.

Its all shot on iphone by our friend and long time video collaborator Chris Thom.

The majority of the cast are from our amazing Whatsapp/Discord group.

The members of the band are – House of Lords on Bass – The actor Rich Keeble on Guitar (Rivals/Good Omens/Top cash adverts), Max Blansjaar on Piano (of Max Blansjaar fame – YK tour support also) and my boy Arthur Dartnall on Drums.

I would highly recommend joining the Discord if you like chatting about music and meeting nice people.
